Compacting Curriculum  –

Students or teachers work together to put a learning package together.  Curriculum compacting can be used for a classroom or for differentiation with specific students.

Compacting Curriculum has three parts:

►Name It: Identify the learning outcomes of the required curriculum

►Prove It: Assess and record a student’s previous mastery of the expected learning outcomes

►Change It: Provide teacher or student generated appropriate and challenging alternatives

 How to get started:

► Initial assessment prior to study-what do they already know '

Give students difficult activities to complete to demonstrate mastery

Analysis of results for areas of skill mastery or need

Development of investigative learning activities to advance areas of need

       Goals of Compacting:

           1. Create a challenging environment.

           2. Guarantee mastery of basic curriculum.

           3. Provide time for enrichment and acceleration.

For enrichment, consider complexity of content, new and original product, or student selected topic
